SELECTING THE SLAB

Idaho Sunset Seam Agate

The artisanal journey begins at the source. We meticulously examine raw mineral slabs, identifying the unique geological narratives within each cut. For enthusiasts, this stage is about visualizing the final cabochon hidden within the rough patterns and color flows of the earth.

PRECISION SHAPING

Using a diamond blade on a lapidary trim saw, we translate vision into form. Following a hand-drawn template, the stone is attached to a "dop" stick and is carefully guided through a series of grinding wheels. Each pass refines the dome and girdle, transforming a flat slab into a tactile, three-dimensional masterpiece.

FINAL POLISHING

The final reveal. Progressing through finer diamond grits leads to the ultimate polish. This stage breathes life into the gem, exposing the depth of its interior landscape and achieving a mirror-like finish that defines true lapidary excellence.

The Art of the Cut

LL Cabochons & More was born from a deep reverence for the geological wonders hidden beneath our feet. What started as a hobby in a small garage studio has evolved into a dedicated sanctuary for the lapidary arts. We specialize in the meticulous art of slab cutting, grinding, and polishing, turning raw minerals into vibrant, hand-shaped cabochons. Each stone in our collection tells a million-year-old story, from the fiery depths of Jasper, the vibrant blues of Turquoise to the translucent calm of chalcedony. Our mission is to provide both enthusiasts and beginners with the tools, materials, and finished stones that inspire their own creative expressions, honoring the silent, enduring beauty of the mineral world.

Our cabochons are handcrafted and created from stone slabs gathered from all over the world. Each cabochon is created with a vision in mind, and should the stone tell us differently, the piece is shaped by looking at the stone, choosing the most interesting landscape and shaping it into the masterpiece it was meant to be.
